Studio · est. 2022 · Kingosgade 13

I take pictures of people,
slowly, in north-facing daylight, the way my grandmother took them — kindly.

Kingosgade sits in quiet Frederiksberg, five minutes from Forum metro and ten from Frederiksberg Have. The studio is in the basement of an old walk-up; large north-facing windows at street level, wooden floors, quiet.

I shoot digital, but I light and print it like film. Honest colours, open shadows, warm whites. Small prints.

About the street we stand on

Kingosgade is named after Thomas Kingo (1634–1703), perhaps the most important Danish hymn-writer of the Baroque and bishop of Odense. Kingo wrote more than a hundred hymns still sung in Danish churches today — but he also wrote sensual, earthy poems about love, the body, and the passing of things.

What was unusual about Kingo was that he didn't see sensuality and spirituality as opposites. He took melodies from secular operas, even erotic ballets, and set them to his hymns. The earthly wasn't to be suppressed, it was to be sung upward. Beauty, the body, the light falling oddly through a window one afternoon — all of it belonged.

That attitude isn't far from what I try to do here. A portrait isn't about being perfect. It's about being seen, in the light you're in, on the day you're in it. Sensual, honest, without a filter.

Kingosgade was laid out in 1911 and got its name the following year. Five minutes from Forum metro, ten from Frederiksberg Have. The studio is in the basement of an old walk-up at number 13 — with large north-facing windows at street level.
